Being in the right place at the right time. Perhaps this is one of the commandments of getting an excellent photo and Sebastião Salgado is proof of that. On 30 March 1981 was passing through New York on his way to Australia. At this time it was freelance and was covering a speech by Ronald Reagan at the Hilton Hotel in Washington, but failed credential for the event and then went to the back door, at least to cover the departure of President. At this time, John Hinckley, 22 shot six times against Reagan. Only one of the bullets hit the the president, puncturing his lung. There were several photojournalists, who were prevented from making images of work by security guards, who rushed to cover the President and only 03 were in position to make records. One of them, the AP agency, managed to record the exact time of impact of the shot, the other was changing films and Sebastian was in a side that agents failed to cover. The photographer who was at the service of AP, received nothing because the agency claimed that the photo was her, one time he was employed. Sebastian said later that the money received has to buy an apartment in Paris, and an automobile, values estimated at the time at over $ 300,000. And this was the impetus to begin his career as a documentary photographer

Lugar e momento decisivos/ Decise time and place
O equipamento estava comigo, a cabeça panoramica estava no carro, esquecida no mesmo no dia anterior, a luz incidindo do lado certo, enfim....

. I've lost a lot of photos to be inattentive, the equipment to be saved, or, most often, not being with me. But, on this photo, everything was for, because I was doing a job and back on the scene saw the balloon being assembled in a park. The equipment was me, the panoramic head was in the car, on the same forgotten the previous day, the light falling on the right side, anyway ....
